Bettina Trump Confirms Russian Businessman Funded Post-Wedding Celebrations

Bettina Trump, the wife of Donald Trump Jr., has confirmed that a portion of the couple's post-wedding celebrations in May was funded by Russian businessman Umar Kremlev. The statement followed an investigative report detailing financial contributions made by Kremlev, who leads the International Boxing Association and maintains close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Details of the Bahamas Festivities

According to a report published by the non-profit investigative outlet ProPublica, Kremlev covered hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses for a three-day event held in the Bahamas. The report specified that Kremlev paid for a fireworks display and funded the rental of one of two private islands utilized for the gathering.

Addressing the report in an Instagram post on Monday, Bettina Trump described Kremlev as a "dear friend" who hosted two nights of events for the couple following their nuptials. She described the hosting as an extraordinarily generous wedding gift for which she and Donald Trump Jr. remain grateful.

Clarification on Event Planning and Political Response

In her statement, Bettina Trump clarified that the couple married in a private ceremony attended exclusively by family. She noted that the surrounding weekend event had originally been organized in advance as a gathering with friends rather than a wedding celebration, but the couple chose to marry just prior to the planned trip.

She also criticized public coverage of the funding, stating it was unfortunate that a personal occasion was being interpreted through a political or sinister lens due to the background and origin of their friend.

Kremlev's Background and Presidential Absence

Kremlev heads the International Boxing Association and was recently awarded the Order of Friendship by Vladimir Putin. Chinese state media cited by ProPublica also noted that Kremlev previously traveled to China as part of an official Russian delegation alongside Putin.

Former US President Donald Trump did not attend his son's wedding ceremony in May. In a post on Truth Social at the time, he extended congratulations to the couple and explained that government obligations and his commitment to the United States kept him in Washington.
