Airtel Money Targets $9 Billion London Stock Exchange Debut
African mobile payments business Airtel Money has announced plans to float on the London Stock Exchange, providing a potential boost to the UK market following a period of limited stock debuts and corporate departures.
The company, which is the fintech division of FTSE 100 constituent Airtel Africa and ultimately controlled by Indian billionaire Sunil Bharti Mittal's Bharti Enterprises, is seeking to raise approximately $800 million (£601 million) through the initial public offering. The flotation aims for an overall valuation between $8 billion and $9 billion, positioning it to be one of the largest UK stock market listings in recent years.
Pan-African Network and Financial Performance
Airtel Money serves 53 million monthly active users across 13 sub-Saharan African countries, including Uganda, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Operating via physical kiosks and branch locations, the platform enables customers to deposit funds onto mobile devices, withdraw cash, and execute digital transactions.
The business recorded just under $1.4 billion in revenue during its previous financial year. Performance continued to grow into the most recent quarter ending June 30, with revenue rising 38 percent to £399 million, according to financial disclosures from Airtel Africa.
Listing Timeline and Shareholder Structure
Airtel Africa currently maintains a stake of just under 78 percent in Airtel Money and intends to remain a long-term investor following the float. Minor shareholdings in the payments firm are held by TPG, Mastercard, the Qatar Investment Authority, and Chimetech Holding.
Chief Executive Ian Ferrao stated that company leadership evaluated multiple exchanges in North America, Europe, and the Middle East before selecting the London venue due to deep capital availability and an established understanding of emerging African markets.
The IPO timeline was previously adjusted from the first half of 2026 to the second half of the year following broader market instability caused by the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. Airtel Money plans to release further listing specifics in early October, including an indicative share price range and the volume of equity to be offered, before finalizing terms later that month.
