Woman Killed and Five Injured in Shooting at Swiss Techno Rave

Swiss authorities have launched a nationwide manhunt after a shooting at a techno rave in Aarau left a 22-year-old woman dead and five other people injured. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at a horse racing track located roughly 29 miles west of Zurich.

The deceased victim has been identified by police as Italian national Maria Spinelli, who died at the scene. Five additional individuals—four men and one woman aged between 24 and 27—were taken to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to severe. Italy's foreign ministry confirmed that two other slightly injured Italian citizens have already returned home.

POLICE SEARCH FOR SUSPECTS AS INVESTIGATION EXPANDS

Emergency services received the first report of gunfire at the Schachen race track around 02:30 local time, shortly after the music had stopped. Event organizers had anticipated up to 3,500 attendees at the venue. Aarau cantonal police spokesman Michael Leupold stated during a Sunday afternoon press conference that law enforcement officers were actively conducting a large-scale operation but had no immediate leads on who was responsible or whether the shooting involved a single perpetrator or multiple individuals.

Authorities believe the suspect or suspects are no longer in Aarau, a town of about 23,000 residents situated less than 40 kilometers from the German border. Heavy security measures have been implemented across the region, including the deployment of armed officers, riot police, an armored vehicle, and a Swiss Army helicopter. Bordering German authorities in Freiburg are cooperating with the Swiss investigation, and Italian officials are monitoring developments closely from Zurich and Bern.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, initially mistaking the sound for fireworks after the music ended. Organizers from Agency Events AG expressed shock over the violence and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement. Authorities have cordoned off the race track alongside adjacent sports facilities and have asked members of the public to submit any photos or video footage taken at the event to assist the ongoing investigation.
