Police Increase Patrols and Release Image Following Alleged Sexual Assaults at Narrabeen Lagoon
New South Wales Police have heightened security around Narrabeen Lagoon in Sydney's northern beaches following reports of six alleged sexual offences targeting women. Authorities have released an image of an e-bike rider who may assist with the ongoing investigation and are urging him to contact police.
The alleged incidents occurred between October 1 and October 12 in broad daylight, primarily between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. According to investigators, a male on an e-bike allegedly approached women while they were walking or running on trail paths around the lagoon and nearby bushland, sexually touched them, and then fled on his bicycle. In one instance, the suspect also made inappropriate sexual comments.
Heightened Police Response and Suspect Description
In response to the reports, police have deployed both plain-clothed and uniformed officers to conduct overt and covert operations in the area. The local area command is collaborating with the State Crime Command and the Sex Crime Squad to address the situation. Superintendent John Duncan noted that multiple incidents occurring on the same day suggest the perpetrator is likely a local resident. Authorities currently believe a single individual is responsible for the offences.
The man sought by police is described as being of Caucasian appearance, under 25 years old, approximately 175 centimeters tall, and of medium build.
Timeline of Reported Incidents
Initial reports were filed after incidents on October 7 and October 8. Following a public appeal on October 12, three additional reports surfaced, including an earlier incident from October 1 near South Creek Road at Wheeler Heights at around 4:30 pm. On October 12, two separate women reported being sexually touched between 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
While no further incidents have been reported since October 12, police suspect additional victims may exist. Officials are urging anyone with information, further reports, or dashcam footage from the area to contact Dee Why Police Station or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
