Indian Authorities Crack Down on Gen Z Movement as Tensions Rise Between Trump and Zelensky

Indian authorities have suppressed a large-scale demonstration organised by the youth-led Cockroach movement in New Delhi, detaining thousands of Gen Z protesters in makeshift facilities. The mass demonstration, called to protest alleged voter fraud, was shut down before it could take place. Movement founder Abhijeet Dipke was arrested upon arrival and has been detained again following his initial arrest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration defended the actions, stating that the measures were required to protect civilians in the national capital. However, the government is facing sharp criticism for employing heavy-handed tactics, and the United Nations Human Rights Office has called on Indian authorities to uphold the right to peaceful assembly.

Diplomatic Friction Between US and Ukraine Escalates

In international affairs, tensions have heightened between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump following a controversial diesel agreement between Washington and the Kremlin ahead of the US midterm elections. Zelensky expressed personal disappointment over the decision, describing the move as weak and suggesting that Trump had aligned with the opposing side.

In response, Trump publicly stated that Zelensky should be replaced and cautioned the Ukrainian leader against targeting Russian oil refineries. Trump also claimed to have brokered a bilateral energy ceasefire, though the announcement yielded no practical outcome. Following the rift, Zelensky has continued efforts to gather support and secure solutions among European allies.
