Polish Authorities Detain Man Suspected of Plotting Attack on Prime Minister Tusk
Polish security services have detained a man suspected of planning an assassination attack targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Officials confirmed the arrest following a coordinated response to credible threats against the two senior leaders.
Threat Uncovered by Security Services
The alleged plot came to light after the State Protection Service, the agency tasked with safeguarding government ministers, forwarded an email containing details about the potential attack to the police. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that law enforcement received credible intelligence regarding the potential threats, prompting security services to convene an emergency meeting on Sunday to address the situation.
A spokesperson for the Special Services Co-ordinator stated that authorities treated the threat as extremely serious, noting there was a strong likelihood the planned actions could have been executed.
Details of the Arrest
Special Services Co-ordinator spokesperson Jacek Dobrzynski told local media that the suspect is a Polish citizen who was taken into custody in the Lower Silesia region. Following the operation, Prime Minister Tusk publicly expressed his gratitude to the police force for their quick and decisive intervention in apprehending the suspect.
Tusk currently serves as Poland's prime minister, a position he assumed in 2023 after a prior term from 2007 to 2014. He also previously served as president of the European Council between 2014 and 2019.
