Former Port Adelaide AFL Player Daniel Stewart Dies Aged 37
Former Port Adelaide forward Daniel Stewart has died suddenly at the age of 37, the AFL club announced. Stewart spent four seasons with the Power from 2010 to 2013, making 36 senior appearances and kicking 31 goals during his tenure at Alberton.
Originally from Victoria, Stewart joined Port Adelaide via the 2009 rookie draft before being elevated to the senior list later that year. Prior to his AFL career, the key forward played for the Eastern Ranges, AFL Queensland club Labrador, and South Australian National Football League (SANFL) side North Adelaide. His highest single-game goal tally came during the final round of the 2010 season at Docklands, where he kicked four goals in a 10-point victory over Richmond.
Club Pays Tribute to Former Forward
Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson expressed deep sadness over the news, offering condolences to Stewart's family, including his mother Donna, father Byron, wife Laura, sons Bernie and Lando, and brother Leigh. Richardson also acknowledged his close friend and former teammate Matt Thomas, alongside his former clubs North Adelaide and Labrador.
The club confirmed it will offer support to former teammates, coaches, and staff affected by the news. Port Adelaide also announced plans to honor Stewart by wearing black armbands during their first home game of next season at Adelaide Oval.
