Australian Police Launch Investigation Into Married at First Sight Production

Police in Australia have opened an investigation into the production of reality television show Married at First Sight Australia following reports regarding the sharing of inappropriate content.

A spokesperson for the New South Wales Police Force confirmed that officers from the South Sydney Police Area Command initiated inquiries on August 24, 2026, after receiving a report. Police stated that the matter is being referred to the Western Australia Police Force, though Western Australia authorities noted the referral had not yet been received.

Allegations Involving Production Company

Broadcaster Channel Nine acknowledged the ongoing police inquiry, directing further questions to the show's production firm, Endemol Shine Australia. According to industry news outlet TV Blackbox, a male participant on the current season submitted a formal police complaint alleging that producers disclosed private information about him to his on-screen partner. Endemol Shine Australia has not responded to requests for comment regarding the investigation.

The developments follow prior scrutiny of the Australian franchise earlier this year. Former cast members alleged they were paired with partners who had undisclosed criminal records involving drugs and violence, leading Australia's media watchdog to label the findings serious and disturbing. In response to earlier criticisms, Channel Nine and Endemol Shine Australia stated they maintain strong protocols to protect participant safety and well-being.

Broader Scrutiny Across Franchises

The UK version of the franchise, produced independently by CPL for Channel 4, has faced separate controversy. Following a BBC Panorama report detailing rape allegations made by two female participants—claims denied by the accused men—UK media regulator Ofcom launched an official investigation. A UK cast member was subsequently arrested on suspicion of rape, and Channel 4 commissioned an independent review into contributor welfare.
