ABC Announces 2027 Programming Lineup Featuring Returning Hits and New Dramas

The ABC has revealed its content slate for 2027, highlighting a heavy focus on workplace dramas, comedy, and crime series featuring prominent Australian and international talent.

Kitty Flanagan returns for the fourth season of the comedy series Fisk alongside co-writer and sister Penny Flanagan. Following the death of their father earlier this year, the pair learned about probate administration firsthand, which inspired them to write the upcoming season. Kitty Flanagan confirmed that her character, Helen, will maintain her trademark lack of fashion sense, social skills, and romantic developments.

New Drama and Crime Offerings

Hugo Weaving leads the new drama The Great White, produced by the team behind Slow Horses and Apple Cider Vinegar. Weaving plays Alan Armstrong, a disgraced barrister seeking to repair his reputation and resolve personal debt after taking on an animal law case involving a dangerous dog.

Rebecca Gibney returns to an ABC scripted series for the first time since 1995, starring in Rural Crime Unit. Gibney plays Jolene, a matriarch in the small town of Gundawarra. The series focuses on character-driven stories and local offenses alongside stars Morgana O'Reilly, who plays local police officer Rita, and Philip Lynch, playing city officer Nick.

Brisbane-set dark crime series Fortitude Valley stars Hunter Page-Lochard as a detective investigating human remains discovered in a demolished building. Page-Lochard, who also co-wrote and executive produced the show, stars alongside British actor Rupert Everett, who plays a powerful property magnate.

Kate Box and Sarah Peirse star in the darkly comedic thriller Help Me!, which follows a mother and daughter who receive a plea for help from a stranger in a cafe.

Returning Unscripted Favorites

In non-fiction programming, You Can't Ask That returns after a four-year hiatus. Co-creator Kirk Docker confirmed the new season will explore topics such as scam victims, voluntary assisted dying, and war survivors. Additionally, the rebooted documentary competition series Race Around the World will return for another season featuring hosts John Safran and Zan Rowe.
